NL 01 Dutch Docs

In the 50s, the Dutch Short Film reached its first climax with its short documentaries. Filmmakers, such as van der Horst or von Gasteren, reflected reconstruction and social development. In addition to the Oscar for Haanstras film Glass, the films gained high praise and won numerous international awards. Filmmakers such as van der Keuken, or Vrijman continued this tradition in the 60s, based on the social spirit again and in critical tones.

NL 02 Fate, Faults and Family

From the early 90s, a new twist was noted in the Dutch short films. Improvements in the promotion and evaluation capabilities at festivals and on TV turned the fictional short film in the Netherlands into a popular format within 15 years. Two thematic programmes show the intensity and range of dutch productions over the last years, with the first one devoted entirely to the little ones. They do not always turn out as innocent angels, mix up diligently their environment, can be victims but also perpetrators and they will grow up one day ...

NL 03 Slip ups!

Meanwhile, the Dutch short film inspires regularly audiences at festivals around the world, for its internationally recognized directors have exciting things to tell. Also interfilm presents the fascination of these fictional worlds: In the second part of the programmes showing recent fiction short films from our neighboring country, the audience gets an insight into the number of cheats a man's life can hide and how to strike back in thought or deed.

NL 04 Animatie

The origins of the Dutch animated film go back to the 30s. Since the first colored ,Puppetoon'-animated cartoons for Philips, the animated ads flourished until the 80s. But even in independent productions, the craft has been developed and enriched with some socially critical or political content. Thanks to the support of the Netherland Institute for Animation Film, more and more new, high-quality animations are being created, like the Oscar-winner ,Father & Daughter` in 2000.

RUS 01 Unexpected

RUS 03 Animated - Russian Highlights

This programme gives an insight into the variety of Russian animation art, in particular since the 80s until today. In addition to contemporary directors such as Konstantin Bronzit, who was nominated for the Academy Award with his film Lavatory Lovestory, or Natalia and Irina Levanova Margolina, this programme also shows works of Garry Bardin or Alexander Petrov who won an Oscar and the special award at Annecy with his short film The Rusalka. Of course, also works by `The Master of Animation ', Yuri Norstein, will be presented, who gained a lot of attention with his films in the 70s.

RUS 04 Animated Propaganda Films 1924-79

The propaganda film played a major role in the history of Russian cinema . In this area, also the Russian animation filmmakers were extremely creative. Topics are among others propaganda against the American imperialists, the Nazis, the capitalist consumerism, waste, exploitation, development and much more.
