With almost 6,000 entries from over 100 countries and a festival program boasting more than 400 films, interfilm Berlin is one of the largest international short film festivals and, founded as it was in 1982, one of the oldest. Even the KUKI Short Film Festival for Children and Youth will be held for the third time.
Apart from 6 excellent competitions, we have an incredible diversity of programs on offer. The spectrum ranges from live-action to animation, documentary and experimental film right up to virals, commercials and music videos.

Our foreign focuses couldn’t possibly be more contrary this year: short masterpieces from India and Ireland reveal insights into their respective histories and styles. Further spotlights concentrate on Mexico City and Sicily as well as handmade 2D animation and new Chinese animation, to name a few. Plenty of animated highlights have also been included in the 5th Zebra Poetry Film Festival selection as well as in the environmental film program, “CinemAmbiente” from Turin and the collection of new Italian films courtesy of Immaginale.

In Sound and Vision, musicians and DJs redefine the classic cinematic union of image and sound, while ShortFriday at the Volksbühne will feature a concert given by the synaesthetic band known as “Formelwesen” as well as various interactive events and a platform for creative film and media professionals to present new projects and concepts.

Wishing you a week of new insights, interesting encounters and an inspiring festival!
