Hold onto your hats! After the resounding success of the first KUKI Festival in 2008 here comes the 2nd International Short Film Festival for Children and Youth Berlin.
And just look at how KUKI has grown: With more than 740 entries from all over the world, we were able to assemble a festival programme with exciting, funny and imaginative short films sure to please audiences of all ages in five competition programmes for children aged 4+, 6+, 10+, 12+ and 14+. As all films are screened in their original languages, we will have professional actors give a live German voice-over in each programme except the 14+ age group.
It all kicks off at the fabulous opening ceremony on Sunday 1 November at 3pm at Filmtheater am Friedrichshain – our festival cinema this year. The opening screening will feature a selection of competition films as well as the premiere of the film “Through the Big, Fat Wall” (WT) made during the children’s filmmaking workshop “Kinder machen Kurzfilm!”
We'll be offering a first-time programme especially created for kindergarten children, while the KUKI school programme continues to inform and inspire with short documentaries, foreign language programmes and short films addressing the theme of The Wall and Borders (to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall). Pupils and teachers are encouraged to participate in open discussions after every screening with attending filmmakers and KUKI organisers. And for those who feel creatively inspired by the animation films seen at the festival, we will once again have the TRICKBOXX from KI.KA at our disposal. Like a mini animation studio, the TRICKBOXX invites everyone to try their hand at making an animated film.
A further premiere in our film-filled week is the programme aimed at teenagers, MuVi 14 +, presenting the latest music video clips on a big screen followed by a dance party with a live band and DJ! The festival finale will take place when both the children’s and youth juries announce their respective competition winners at the Awards Ceremony given by KUKI's big sister, the 25th International Short Film Festival Berlin, on 8 November in Kino Babylon.
Here's wishing you a great time at the coming festival!
