3: Postcolonial Perspectives (Sunday 12 September - 8 pm)

More than almost any other city, Berlin stands for freedom, for self-determination, for a boundless attitude to life that emerged from the free space between the borders of former political superpowers. A contradictory self-image that has hardly lost any of its appeal to this day. Exactly the right place to explore the concept of the border, the idea of the red line, as well as the potential of its transgression:
The title "Berliner Freiheit" (Berlin Freedom) assembles 3 short film programs that approach this set of issues from varied perspectives: They look at walls, borders and barriers, in people's minds as well as on maps and rivers, and at how they can be breached, traversed and overcome.
'Girls* Riot' explores coming of age as transgression and a frontier experience from a female perspective, 'The Borders of Freedom' examines actual borders and their very individual meaning for the people who have to live alongside and with them, and 'Postcolonial Perspectives' deals with colonial history and its ongoing implications.
In keeping with the title and theme, the events will all take place as free open-air events in the courtyard of the Königstadt in cooperation with Mobile Kino.
All films will be shown in their original language version with english subtitles.
Sponsored by Draussenstadt und supported by Genossenschaft der alten Königstadt, Kino&Bar in der Königstadt and Mobile Kino.
We will be transforming the centre courtyard of the Königstadt into an open air cinema on three consecutive Sunday evenings.
Organizers are Bewegliche Ziele e.V. in cooperation with interfilm Berlin.
