CineConnect has now existed for almost a year. During this time, we have engaged deeply with the concept of film mediation: What does it mean to us? Where does mediation actually begin, and where does it end? CineConnect was founded מתוך the understanding that film mediation is not limited to media education or film literacy.
For us, it takes place across the entire film landscape. In production, distribution, curation, and funding. In all of these areas, decisions are made, perspectives are shaped, and narratives are framed. This is precisely where mediation happens.
Here is the brochure as a PDF.
Our kick-off event took place 2026 on March 14 and 15, 2026 at Lettrétage (ACUD) in Berlin (pic). Over the two days, we shared initial insights from our different fields of work, watched films together, and opened up space for discussion. The focus was not on finished answers, but on exchange: How do we understand film mediation today, and how do we want to rethink it together?

CineConnect is a project close to our hearts. It is an at tempt not only to rethink critical film literacy, but also to practice it collectively. From the beginning, we wanted to develop the project collaboratively with people from different areas of the film landscape, media education, and the social sciences, bringing together their different perspectives and experiences. We intentionally work across disciplines because we believe that understand ing social structures is essential in order to define the role of film literacy within the broader film landscape.
The idea grew out of our previous collaboration. We quickly realized that such an undertaking is not some thing we could—or wanted to—carry out alone. We therefore created ThinkTanks as spaces where thoughts, questions, and visions could come together. The first meetings were intentionally open and flexible, allowing conversations to emerge that would, in turn, lay the groundwork for the following ThinkTanks. In this way, the project grew collaboratively from the very beginning, together with the participants.
In addition to summarizing the processes within the ThinkTanks, this brochure contains a second section in which participants and supporters of the project present their specific approaches and perspectives in their own texts—reflections and impulses that emerged both within and beyond the ThinkTanks.
