About the Competition

The incredible diversity of international short film, in all its facets, is once again astounding to behold. From the more than 7000 entries that reached us from 130 countries, a bursting international competition programme has been assembled with 64 films from 27 countries: A dazzling cross-section of the broad spectrum of the latest international productions.

Apart from this year’s vast number of European films, the International Competition also presents a selection of productions from Brazil, China, Hong Kong, Israel, Canada, Madagascar, Mexico, South Korea and the USA.
In eight competition programmes, of which two are traditionally dedicated to animation, expect to see a huge variety of aesthetic styles and narrative techniques.

The short films collected here run away with the audience to conquer new frontiers and take them tripping on to the fantastic and hellish worlds waiting to be discovered around them. Celebrating the extraordinary in the everyday as much as the familiar in the weird, whether calm, peculiar or poignant, these films move, send pulses racing, break your heart and blow your mind.
