PA 01 Focus on: Poland Special

Following decades of decline and neglect, Polish cinema has experienced a sort or rebirth over the past fifteen years and now represents one of the most exciting places for filmmaking in the world. So it is that the country not only stands for a long tradition of animated film – it has also become home to a new generation of filmmakers that are pushing at the boundaries of this format. At the same time, Polish cinema is nearly second-to-none in its capacity to react to social and political upheavals – here special mention should also be made of the Polish short film and its purposeful and incisive statements.

To what extent are Polish filmmakers taking up current developments in their work? What challenges are already present in the production process? With this year’s Focus on Poland, Polish filmmakers will attempt to provide answers and raise many further questions while inviting the audience to enter into a shared conversation.

With Anna Huth, Piotr Rosolowski, Michał Hudzikowski and Marta Świętek. The discussion will be moderated by Izabela Plucinska. She is a film director for Animation and graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz and Film Animation of the Cinematography Department at the Lodz Film School. Currently she is a teacher at the Academy of Art in Szczecin, at the same time she is working at her own production company, ClayTraces.
