EV 04 Award Ceremony

The Covid age hasn’t changed the fact that a festival isn’t a festival until prizes are awarded and the bravest and most brilliant films in the programme have been appropriately honoured. With all the tongue-in-cheek attitude, all the levity and slapstick that we permit ourselves to engage in, this moment is honestly the most beautiful and significant one of the festival for us as well. Awards are not only a distinction – they can be huge career boosters, as well as much needed financial support, especially in the economically difficult situation in which short films are produced. So, when the presentation of all our awards takes place “merely” online this year, without the corresponding glamour we’ve grown accustomed to, it is these truths that will continue to resonate in spite of everything.
