„Ugandan Cinema Unveiled“ will take you on a journey into the vibrant world of short filmmaking in Uganda. The panel will provide the audience with first-hand insight from representatives of the non-profit organization "Film Possible" and young East-African filmmakers. Amidst and in spite of challenges such as limited funding, technical constraints, and deficiencies in vital film infrastructure, these filmmakers display resilience and innovation, uniting to overcome hurdles. Ugandan films offer cultural richness, address social issues, and have even gained global recognition at different festivals. Join us in celebrating these storytellers as they carve their unique place in the global cinematic landscape, inspiring so many with their narratives.

The event will be held in English.

Funded by the Fund for German festivals de⁺ of the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office.

Ali Musoke

Accomplished Filmmaker, Director, Cinematographer, and Producer. Over a decade of experience in fiction and documentary filmmaking, with a portfolio of acclaimed productions. Founder of Stone Age Pictures and Film Possible, supporting the next generation of African filmmakers.

Patience Asaba Katushabe

is a Ugandan Film and Documentary Producer, and Co-Founder of Duuka Production LTD with over 12 years of experience in the film industry. She has worked as a host of short films, features, documentaries, Universal studios music videos and as a filmmaking mentor for UNESCO’s Young Filmmakers Program, among others. She was also a coordinator and producer for 5 years at Mira Nair film school Maisha Film Lab.

Shari Mwanika

Filmmaker, photographer, and content creator breaking norms and empowering women through art. Directed “Erasure” (2018, SVAFF selection) and co-directed "Wrapped Hosts ‘Shnaks’" on YouTube with a unique take on adulting and sisterhood. Co-founded Xpressions UG to elevate East African music.

Patience Nitumwesiga

Award-winning afro-futurist filmmaker, educator, and artist, fearlessly addressing political issues in works like “The Woman Who Poked The Leopard”. Her shorts and plays shine at global festivals, including the Pan African Film Festival. Shagika, her company, is busy with four upcoming features.

Benon Mugumbya

A multifaceted talent in the world of film and music. Formerly part of musical Duo Benon & Vamposs, known for hits like “Nsazewo”. Transitioned into music production, founding Swangz Avenue and working with Uganda's top artists. Award-winning producer and musician. Also, a renowned TV commercial director for major brands. In 2020, he ventured into film with his debut short film, "Rolex," and now focuses on his passion for filmmaking.

Lilian Maximillian Nabaggala

is a creative and dance practitioner based in Kampala, Uganda. The Ugandan traditional and urban / street dance background has molded her into a performer, choreographer, and director experimenting with other art forms.  Her fascination with self-discovery, authenticity, identity, heritage, and connection to the now has influenced the creation of a fusion style/ language portrayed through her works.
