IF 06 Beyond a Submission to the Norm – A Panel Discussion on the (In)visibility of BIPOC Perspectives, Stories and Aesthetics at Film Festivals

Guests:
Dieu Hao Do (Director/Writer: "Hao Are You"; Berlin Asian Film Network BAFNET)
Sheri Hagen (Actress/Producer/Director/Writer: Equality Film; Schwarze Filmschaffende e.V. Afro-German film collective)
Can Tanyol (Director/Writer: "Crazy Blood“)

Concept & Moderation: Canan Turan (Curator/Moderator/Speaker/Anti-discrimination in Film)

There must always be a selection at film festivals, of course, but what are the supposedly objective criteria at play here? What kind of films are considered good enough to be programmed? Who gets to decide that and whose perspectives are left out? Many activists and filmmakers demand a new politics for selection beyond a submission to the white, patriarchal, heterosexual and classist norm. In this spirit, the Berlin-based filmmakers Dieu Hao Do, Sheri Hagen and Can Tanyol will talk about the access and representation of films made by BIPOC at festivals today. Moderated by Canan Turan.

The event will take place as part of the Focus on-program.

The event will be held in English.
Funded by Robert-Bosch-Stiftung. The Panel is free of charge, a registration via our ticket portal is still necessary.
