IF 04 Doing Curatorial Justice – A Workshop on the Politics and Practices of Ethical Representation, Equity and Accountability at Film Festivals

After a critical self-examination by the participants and mapping the status quo, we will look at strategies for essential structural changes and discuss the challenges and opportunities of developing a radically new approach to pre-selection, curation and programming. Eligible for participation (max. 12): film festival programmers, independent curators, film festival professionals. The workshop will be held in English.

Concept & Facilitation: Canan Turan (Curator/Moderator/Speaker/Antidiscrimination in Film)

The event will take place as part of the Focus on-program.

Funded by Robert-Bosch-Stiftung. There is no participation fee. The workshop will take place from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Registration is required via interforum@interfilm.de until 04.11.2023.

Canan Turan

After Canan Turan studied film and documentary in Berlin, Barcelona and London, she directed the short film "Kıymet" (2012) and is the creative producer of the documentary "From Here" (2020). She works as a freelance curator, expert/speaker and moderator focusing on anti-discrimination, representation and empowerment in film. She has been part of the Berlinale Generation selection committee since October 2023. At Interfilm, she co-screens and curates the German Competition as well as the Focus "The *other* German Cinema”.
