Jury

Boris Hadžija

Boris Hadžija is a Berlin based filmmaker and musician born in SFR Yugoslavia. After his master’s degree studies in classical piano at the University of Arts in Belgrade, he studied film directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin. His films premiered and screened at Locarno Film Festival, IFF Rotterdam, Winterthur, Uppsala, PÖFF Shorts, etc. They were nominated for the German Short Film Award and aired on arte, rbb, mdr, etc. Boris Hadžija is a recipient of a scholarship awarded by DAAD.

Giulia Triolo

Giulia Triolo has worked in Italy, Spain, Argentina and Brazil before moving permanently to Copenhagen, Denmark. She has studied at the European Film College, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Studies from the University of Bologna and a Master’s Degree in Film and Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen. She has been part of the production company Snowglobe since 2016 and is at the moment developing several features, fiction and documentary alike. She is an alumna of the Young Nordic Producers' Club and ACE Nordic Focus Training Days. In 2022 she was appointed by the Danish Film Institute as one of the emerging producers participating in Rotterdam Lab and went back as an alumna in 2023.

Amelia Umuhire

Born 1991 in Kigali, Rwanda, Amelia Umuhire is a filmmaker and artist living in Berlin and Kigali.

In 2015 she wrote and directed the award-winning web-series “Polyglot,” in which she follows the lives of young, deracinated London- and Berlin-based Rwandese artists. Her short film “Mugabo” is an experimental short film set in Kigali. It was screened at MOCA Los Angeles, the Berlin Biennale and many more.

In 2018 Amelia Umuhire produced the Prix Europa nominated radio feature Vaterland for the German radio station Deutschlandfunk Kultur.
She was a Villa Romana Fellow in 2020 and adapted the feature into the French "Innocent". She is currently working on her first feature film and developing a series for Netflix.

Tutors Script Lab

Gaia Meucci-Astley

Italian born and Bristol based, Gaia is a freelance script consultant and assessor for new talent schemes. 

Her regular collaborations include the BFI Network, the Torino Film Lab, LIM (Less is More), Ffilm Cymru Wales, Cinéma De Demain at Cannes Film FestivaI, Shore Scripts and Berlin-based Serial Eyes.  

She has an international background in film programming and film festivals with over 10 years of experience championing and supporting up-and-coming talent in the UK and abroad. Her previous roles include being the Short Film Programmer for the Encounters Festival in Bristol and the Edinburgh International Film Festival as well as working with renowned organisations such as the Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival, the Forum des Images in Paris and the BFI London Film Festival. 

Tavo Ruiz

Writer and director born in Mexico. His feature film screenplay “Acapulco Magic” won the Mexican Film Institute feature in development grant, it participated at the Guanajuato Film Festival screenplay competition, Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund in Los Cabos Film Festival, the DFFB Filmnetzwerk Mentoring Program Berlin, Gotham Film Week in New York and also La Fabrique Cinéma de l’Institut Français invited it to attend Cannes Film Festival 2022, during a residence for projects in development. He currently curates the German Competitions at the Oscar qualifying Interfilm Berlin and Max Ophüls Preis.

Brigid O'Shea

Brigid O’Shea is a documentary consultant, helping documentary projects and filmmakers reach their full international potential and professional goals. Her international network spans the globe, working on all continents, with both emerging talent and industry veterans. She’s worked with ARTE on projects like the Generation Africa and Generation Ukraine, working on festival strategy for the collections of films. She founded together with other colleagues the Documentary Association of Europe, a members network and support system for documentary filmmakers inside and outside of Europe that has grown to 700 members in just three years. She currently serves as the co-director of this organization. She was head of DOK Industry Programme at DOK Leipzig and worked for the Berlin International Film Festival for more than 10 years. She moderates and curates programmes and discussions on non-fiction filmmaking as an internationally respected curator with a wide and diverse network.

Andrea Schwemmer

Andrea Schwemmer studied Theatre- and Film Science and Acting in Berlin and New York, was a member of several renowned theatre ensembles and was seen in films and TV formats. She is a member of the Berlin based band Toolbox Orchestra and has been moderating for a range of film festivals and institutions. She programs short and mid-length films for several festivals such as Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis and interfilm Berlin. Since 2011 she has been working as a coach for the Young Talents acting school, where she teaches kids and teenagers. She gives acting workshops and pitch trainings worldwide for kids, teenagers and adults alike.
