EVENT 09 Sound & Vision

Eight musical acts meet eight films – live at the Volksbühne. The performers have not yet heard the original soundtracks of the films, most of which were selected from the festival program, in order to preserve their own creative connection to the works during the composing process. Eight films, accompanied by eight acts of talented musicians come together in a dense and intense live show, featuring phenomenal sound and the epic screen of the Volksbühne. Katharina Blum and Yule Post host the evening in German and English, guiding the audience through surprises, improvisation, and intense moments. Not to be missed!

Ella Schebesta

born in Berlin, has been playing classical piano since childhood. To develop her compositions, she draws inspiration from surrounding sounds and inner images. The result is a highly visual kind of music—sometimes raw, sometimes delicate. This approach also led her to offer courses for children, where they create their own songs and video clips. She is currently studying music at the Berlin University of the Arts.

Rotatonics

was formed in 2019 out of a shared passion for the Italian composer Nino Rota. Over the next three years, Berlin-based musicians Marie-Elsa Drelon and Carsten Wegener worked intensively to develop their live program, a kind of musical cinema evening with theatrical elements and a music machine, Uncle Irvin. The whole thing is combined with a mixture of chanson, tango, and world music.

Son de maracuyá

We are Son de Maracuyá! We are the bodies of this life who, by chance or fate, who knows? met in Berlin to make music. Our different stories have grown into a common root that crosses the ocean and stretches all the way to South America and the Caribbean. Traditional Latin American melodies, mixed with the spirit of our souls, make up the pulp and flavor of this blossoming passion fruit. Simply a delight!
