Jannis Alexander Kiefer
grew up on his family's farm and, after completing various internships, first studied “audiovisual media” in Berlin and then “feature film directing” at the Film University Babelsberg.
His first-year film COMMENTS, which takes a look at the rampant hatred on the internet, was screened at over 80 festivals worldwide and won several awards. His next short film, KAISER, premiered in 2019 at the Hof Film Festival, where it won the “BILD - KUNST Jury Prize.” In 2021, Jannis Alexander Kiefer will present his graduation film KOLLEGEN at the Max Ophüls Prize, in Clermont-Ferrand, Palm Springs, and at the Warsaw Film Festival, among others. The short film deals with our difficult relationship with the Holocaust.
During the first coronavirus lockdown, Jannis Alexander Kiefer wrote and directed the home office short film MEETING, which won the Short Film Lola in Gold and was broadcast several times on German television. In 2022, he shot his feature film debut ANOTHER GERMAN TANK STORY, which celebrated its world premiere in 2024 at the Shanghai Film Festival and simultaneously at the Munich Film Festival, where it won the First Step Award. The film was released nationwide in cinemas in 2025.

A look at the German digital legacy of our society: real comments from YouTube are interpreted and reenacted in various chapters. (Amateur) actors embody the protagonists of the virtual conversations and give them a human form through a semi-documentary staging. This brings the true but incorporeal events into a space that is tangible for the camera.
