CHINA: NEW TALENTS is a special program in partnership with film and multimedia colleges and universities. Presenting different genres, forms and artistic styles, the selected short films challenge conventional modes of representation and show concerns for society and humanity in modern China.
China New Talents is a initiative to introduce new student films after interfilm already showed regularly Chinese short films in the previous years. Launched by the festival director Heinz Hermanns in collaboration with Ms. Sido Yao Lu, this special program collaborates with film schools, multimedia colleges and universities in Mainland China, Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan presenting different forms and artistic styles. The selected mainly live action but also animated short films unveil the fresh, brave creative minds which seek to challenge conventional modes showing their concerns for society and humanity.
China New Talents will not only be screened in Berlin but in tandem with two other parallel screenings in Beijing and Shanghai in late November. These screenings will be followed by curated panels on the prospect of short film in China.
Sido Yao Lu is the China area programming consultant for interfilm Berlin. She holds her MFA degree in film directing from Columbia University. Her short film has been selected by many international film festivals. She acted as jury member at FIRST Financing Forum, Shanghai International Film Festival Short Film Competition and Shanghai Queer Film Festival. She is now an independent filmmaker and film curator working with young filmmakers.
