COL 04 Looking back: Luis Ospina & Carlos Mayolo

If you want to discuss the current situation of cinema in Colombia, you also need to take a look at its past. Born in Cali, filmmakers Luis Ospina and Carlos Mayolo rose to prominence through their film Agarrando Pueblo – a mockumentary that became the most important short film in Colombian history. Together with other filmmakers, they formed the collective “Grupo de Cali” and they criticized the “pornomisery,” a genre that exploits the country’s poverty as a commercial good and popular attraction.
