Documentary Competition

Foreign worlds, foreign views become nevertheless familiar to you. Documentaries can achieve this, even if they are only 90 seconds long. In times when the world can seem more and more confusing and strange, the unbiased, curious view of the world and the alien, and also the strangeness, is more and more important, whether on a private or geopolitical level. This characteristic unites the filmmakers of the three documentary film programs, which were selected from over five hundred submissions from all over the world. They do not look away, expose themselves to the unknown and try a different view of the seemingly familiar, the everyday-whether experimental, analogue or animated.

What do a dictatorial rooster, good dogs, the secret hobby of a deceased father, prison tattoos or the students of a village school in Tibet have in common? They open up new, sometimes strange perspectives on the world—PERSPECTIVES. Does wearing a hijab make a difference, is shyness something bad, do measuring computers have a soul and what does the omnipresence of revealing mannequins do to public space? A DIFFERENT LOOK tries to find answers. Stranded refugees on the Serbian-Hungarian border, African-American artists in Trump-America or a fashion designer in the GDR. One can be part of the world, but one can also experience a completely different one—A WORLD APART.
