Childhood at the foot of the Berlin Wall, memories and musings about how things might look on the other side. Time passes and you can see people across the way, or watch border guards at work. Nowadays, the Wall is full of vibrant color at East Side Gallery. Alas, grey barriers are trending again across the globe. In the depths of icy winter they’re patrolled by watchful eyes, between Mexico and the USA they take on bizarre forms, and even in lovely Munich “foreigners” are kept fenced inside an isolated facility. At least football provides hope and a context for making friends at the border fence.
