KUKI 11 - International Short Film Festival for Children and Youth Berlin 2018 - Girls' Riot Workshop

GIRLS' RIOT Workshop and Short Film program

After years of dreaming about it, we are thrilled to announce the premiere of the Girls' Riot Workshop!

Thanks to the kind support of Deutsche Kinderhilfswerk (lit. German Children’s Aid), this summer we were able to hold a week-long workshop dedicated to the lives and interests of young women. A group of 15-17-year-olds had the great fortune to work with eminent feminist lecturers in the form of filmmakers Monika Treut and Brenda Lien and writer / film critic Sophie Rieger aka Filmlöwin. Along with members of the KUKI team, the group exchanged ideas about women's rights and identity and discussed gender, diversity and (self)perception.

By the end of the week, the workshop participants had curated the GIRLS’ RIOT short film program from a pool of festival film entries according to their own criteria and interests. An intensive moderation course was held before the festival to support the girls in the presentation of their program at its premiere on Thursday 22 November 2018, in the 3rd floor studio of the Volksbühne theatre.
