Girls* Riot Workshop 2021

For the Girls* Riot! program

How do teenager girls wish to be represented in film? What moves them and what issues do they care about? The Girls* Riot workshop offers a confidential, safe framework in which young women can come together to exchange ideas and experiences. With the inspiring mentors Mateja Meded and Valerie Schönian the 15-19 year old participants spent a week talking about topics such as self-perception, representation, harassment, the band Tic Tac Toe, women's rights (also in the GDR) and solidarity among women. By the end of the week, the participants had curated their program by drawing from a pool of festival submissions and carefully considered the order in which they should be shown. A training session in presentation and moderation with coach and speaker Brenda Jorde before the festival equips the Girls* Riot curators with the skill and confidence to present their program during its festival premiere and lead an audience discussion to reflect on the impact of the films collectively.

Thanks to the Girls* Riot participants in 2021: Anna, Karla, Malina, Esja, Janine, Anouk und Carlotta!
