Rosa Lynch

was born in Berlin in 2003 to English and Irish parents and moved to England for school when she was 16. She sporadically writes a blog on feminism, queerness, and (pop) culture, frequently embarks on new creative endeavours from embroidery to badge making, and studies English Literature with Creative Writing at Oxford Brookes University. Above all else she is interested in storytelling and telling stories. She’s no fun at parties but if you need someone to quote poetry at you, she’s your man. Her blog and creative projects can be found on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/rosacolouredthoughts/

What the workshop’s about

Understanding and recognising narratives.

In the workshop we’ll look at the way media is shaped by and shapes social narratives in our society. What do makeover scenes say about what our society values? Why does the lesbian always die? Why is everyone on tv skinny? And what effect does it have on the way that we view and understand ourselves and each other.

Sandulela Asanda (she/they)

is a filmmaker from the Eastern Cape and is currently based in Cape Town South Africa. After a brief foray into Economics and Law, she has worked in film festivals, training institutions, and production. Her first professionally produced short, Mirror Mirror, recently had its world premiere in Shortcuts at Toronto International Film Festival 2022 and she is currently working on her first feature film, Black Burns Fast. She is an alumna of Locarno Film Festival’s BaseCamp, the Durban FilmMart and Realness African Screenwriter’s Residency.

Girls* Riot focus

I will be doing a workshop with a focus on “The Gaze: ‘Male’, ‘Female’ and ‘Oppositional’”. Together we’ll consider the ways in which the camera looks at subjects and how these ways of looking transfer into real-life attitudes. We will be critically engaging with popular television shows and movies.
