Synopsis:
1. Short Film has a unique way of telling stories and exploring themes. What is it that fascinates you about the short format?
Gil Alkabetz: Since I am an animation filmmaker, the format of a short film is completely natural to me. Even today, despite the growing number of feature productions in animation, the short format still leads in this field, and is still considered the most distinct representative of the medium. I personally have been interested in the short format for a long time already, and have been trying to bring it to the extreme. In this respect I made a number of one-second films, and the shortest film I have made so far, under the title “Frame”, is only one frame long.
2. The program your film is selected for is called “Embracing your Instinct”: What connection do you see between your film and that title?
Gil Alkabetz: I think the connection of my film to the subject can be seen in the film itself: some of the characters there literally embrace themselves, perhaps to take comfort in their feeling of loneliness and lack of communication.
3. What film has inspried you most to make films yourself and what part of it do you see in your own work?
Gil Alkabetz: As an animation creator, what made me want to create animation myself were the Walt Disney and Lonnie Tunes movies I saw as a child, as well as comics from the Tintin series. What I still see from them in my films is the love of two dimensions, and the simple and humorous design of the characters.
