Synopsis:
1. Short Film has a unique way of telling stories and exploring themes. What is it that fascinates you about the short format?
Fernando Souza & Pablo Curto: Shorts are fortunate to be unburdened by the constraints of features. A smaller canvas allowed us greater freedom to experiment, but it also made us concentrate on the emotional core of our story and left less room for unnecessary exposition. Plus, there's no way we could've self-financed anything longer!
2. The program your film is selected for is called “Mementos of Late Capitalism”: What connection do you see between your film and that title?
Fernando Souza & Pablo Curto: The system we live in has expertly choked off our emotional gratification and mental health. Birthing a service that caters to our desire for intimacy, human connection and love is a capitalism masterstroke.
3. What film has inspried you most to make films yourself and what part of it do you see in your own work?
Fernando Souza & Pablo Curto: We love films that challenge the medium and trust that the audience will keep up. Two recent examples could be ‘Honeyland’ or ‘All light, everywhere’ but we’re unsure our film shares anything with them aside from also being a documentary.
