Drei Fragen an die Regie
1. Short Film has a unique way of telling stories and exploring themes. What is it that fascinates you about the short format?
Otto Banovits: It requires the filmmaker to get down to the bones of the story and the message. In the short format there is no room for "filling out scenes"; it needs to be condensed to its core. Every single frame needs to have a meaning. I appreciate the short format because it is actually short. I think an idea should be formulated into a short format if it is eligible for it. If it can't it's better to make it a feature but to condense a feature into a short is never a good idea.
2. The program your film is selected for is called “Event of Dire Portent": What connection do you see between your film and that title?
Otto Banovits: I think the topic of the film is sadly an issue we are still facing today. Maybe it receives less media coverage but is still happening everyday. I think this section is dealing with relevant and current issues that we as artists have the obligation to talk about. Issues that are like a ticking time bomb counting backwards over our heads, we can either decide to notice them or remain in oblivion towards them.
3. What film has inspried you most to make films yourself and what part of it do you see in your own work?
Otto Banovits: Every film inspired me that I ever saw in my life. Bad films or good films equally. I love watching films. My aim is to create a world where I invite my audience so we can share this world together for the duration of the film.
