Drei Fragen an die Regie

1. Short Film has a unique way of telling stories and exploring themes. What is it that fascinates you about the short format?

Levente Kölcsey: I used to make short films in the Aristotelian way because I was taught like that. When I went with my films abroad and saw how fascinating can be a short film I was revealed. I felt liberated because I knew that in the short film there are no rules. You can grab a feeling and if you circling around this feeling, and you put your camera and your actors in the right spot, you just achieve to deliver this feeling to the audience. What can you wish for more?

2. The program your film is selected for is called “Spectrum of Resistance": What connection do you see between your film and that title?

Levente Kölcsey: In my film, I tried to make an environment where is no way out for my secondary protagonist. Even though he would like to achieve something, his possibilities are depending on others. We sense, what is happening is not right but we really don't know who should we blame for that. Not revealing who is the attacker, in the end, gives you the feeling that somebody not agreeing with what just happened. But who was it? The guy? The director?

3. What film has inspried you most to make films yourself and what part of it do you see in your own work?

Levente Kölcsey: I can approach this question from many directions. I love Haneke's way of thinking, his timing, and his restrained directing. I feel close to Ken Loach's mission to focus on the unjust in society. But in the same way, I can say Zvygantsev works as well who compresses all of these things as well with his heavy Russian tone.
