Drei Fragen an die Regie

1. Short Film has a unique way of telling stories and exploring themes. What is it that fascinates you about the short format?

Anna Katalin Lovrity: I believe animated shorts are oftentimes just like poetry: abstract, highlighting a particular phenomenon, but talking about universal things in life. That is why it is a powerful medium to awaken feelings and thoughts in the audience.

2. The program your film is selected for is called “Spectrum of Resistance": What connection do you see between your film and that title?

Anna Katalin Lovrity: Volcano Island is a story of a young naive tigress, who is chased by an aggressive older male tiger. The fearful situation makes her insecure and concerned. Finally, she discovers nature's helping forces, her inner power and she becomes able to heal. Understanding, that something bad has happened to you, and you are not responsible for that gives freedom. And staying free and fearless is the best way to resist.

3. What film has inspried you most to make films yourself and what part of it do you see in your own work?

Anna Katalin Lovrity: think my idea about filmmaking is rather fueled by literature and the arts. But I love Ulrich Seidl's slow pacing films with a distinct ambient, I think it had an effect on my work.
