Synopsis:
Zwei Mitarbeiter*innen der Ausländerbehörde statten Mona einen unangekündigten Besuch ab, um die eheliche Lebensgemeinschaft zwischen ihr und ihrem Mann Parviz zu überprüfen. Nachdem Mona sich den Beamt*innen zunächst alleine stellen muss und die Stimmung ins Schwanken gerät, taucht Parviz auf.

Drei Fragen an die Regie

1. Short Film has a unique way of telling stories and exploring themes. What is it that fascinates you about the short format?

Kevin Biele: I think the short format gives you the opportunity to be very creative and precise about a situation, a theme or a character, without telling too much. For me it is about leaving some space for interpretation and imagination, while still being narrative and entertaining. So maybe the short form can remind the long form of being inventive.

2. The program your film is selected for is called “Hier hast du Hände, jetzt kannst du tun.”: What connection do you see between your film and that title?

Kevin Biele: When I think about hands in the film, I must think of two different aspects: first, the hands of Mona & Parviz are important to the officers, as they are looking for prove of love and marriage. Second - without spoiling -, the quotation is what Mona expects of Parviz.

3. What film has inspried you most to make films yourself and what part of it do you see in your own work?

Kevin Biele: I am kind of embarrassed to name such a hollywood film, but as I got to film late, HER (directed by Spike Jonze in 2013) was one of the first films to show me how quiet, subtle, intimate, social and relevant a film can be told. So what I might see in my work is the subtle intimacy and the love for the calm.
