Herr Ham entscheidet sich für eine Herzentfernung, um von seinen komplizierten Gefühlen entlastet zu werden. Der Arzt versichert ihm, dass dies in der heutigen Zeit überhaupt kein Problem mehr darstellt. Nachdenklich veranlagt, behält Ham jedoch sein Herz nach der Entfernung noch eine Weile, um dieses vielleicht doch noch besser zu verstehen. Das Takotsubo-Syndrom, auch Stress-Kardiomyopathie oder Broken-Heart-Syndrom, ist eine seltene, akut einsetzende und oft schwerwiegende Funktionsstörung des Herzmuskels, die zumeist durch außergewöhnlichen emotionalen oder physischen Stress entsteht.
