Drei Fragen an die Regie
1. Short Film has a unique way of telling stories and exploring themes. What is it that fascinates you about the short format?
Jack Goessens: What is fun about short film is that it is a good place to experiment and play with structure. If anything I’d say that an interesting structure is often inherent to what makes a powerful short.
2. The program your film is selected for is called “Queer Fever”: What connection do you see between your film and that title?
Jack Goessens: Queer Fever is described as the programme about LGBT life from a wide variety of suspenseful situations. Everyman is a story about one queer person’s journey navigating living in a gendered society and transitioning socially. There’s tension between genders and there’s tension between queer people and non-queer people which leads to suspenseful situations. Examples of which are described in the film.
3. What film has inspried you most to make films yourself and what part of it do you see in your own work?
Jack Goessens: I get this question quite a lot and I can’t remember which film did this originally but often I’ll watch a film that gives me another boost and makes me go “I want to make something like this”. Celine Sciamma’s Tomboy is a good example of this.
