Ukraine, Sowjetunion, 1990. Der 17-jährige Yasha rebelliert, wie viele andere Teenager auch. Doch in seiner Heimat sind einige gegnerische Kräfte gefährlicher als andere. Yasha bekommt Ärger, weil er in der Schule die falsche Musik gespielt hat. Doch die Schulleitung tadelt nicht nur sein vermeintliches Fehlverhalten, sondern lässt ihn auch ihre Feindseligkeit gegenüber seinem Jüdischsein spüren. Obwohl Yasha diese Form von Ressentiments gewohnt ist, wühlt ihn der Vorfall auf. Er fühlt sich nicht nur in der Schule und in seiner Stadt unwillkommen, sondern auch im Stich gelassen. Für Yasha beginnt eine Reise, die ihn an den Rand des Abgrunds führt. (Berlinale)
