In 1997 no festival took place because of the unsettled financial situation.

However, new concepts were worked on and attempts were made to find new sponsors and financial backers. Short film programs continued to be screened in Berlin, Dresden and Regensburg. During the Berlinale, a parallel short film event with international short films from recent years was held in the Arena Roof with the help of the Treptow Cultural Office and some sponsors. The hall with its capacity of about 300 people was not able to cope with the large audience.
