Volker Gerling’s work brings people closer to the moment when pictures learned to walk. Born in 1968, the cinematographer has traveled all over the globe for the past 15 years. His flipbooks tell a very personal—and in some cases very intimate—story of the people who he and his camera encounter along the way at village fairs and behind garden fences, in just 36 pictures and 12 seconds each. He explores our souls in poetic miniatures, capturing the fleeting moments in life with a breathtaking simplicity.
