DOC 02 Body Politics

The women’s bodies belong to the men, whose own bodies belong to the state, and all of them belong to commerce. Over the course of centuries, a power structure has emerged, one that assigns clear roles to every individual. In modern society, appreciation and disembodiment run on parallel tracks. The body’s kinetic energy is less needed, instead it has become a business card, a display surface for social status and a carrier of meaning in a world ruled by the image. Within processes of individuation, it is at once an instrument for protest and the expression of a rejection of this status quo.
