GC 02 Land

Life out in the country carries associations of freedom and slowed tempos, while empty landscapes evoke a feeling of unlimited space where one could stretch out and play. Alas, the endless flatland also represents barrenness, and the gaping void implies rural exodus. Further, where time seems to have come to a standstill, old customs predominate, customs that grow all the more constricting where the prairie becomes more expansive. When cinema directs it gaze at the countryside, it is simultaneously a look back in time and an attempt to reintroduce movement to the equation.
